Are there days that you just don’t want to go in your office?

You stand in the doorway and feel a sense of dread and overwhelm. When you sit down to work, you can’t focus on anything and you fritter away the time checking email compulsively and surfing the internet.

You don’t like how your office feels. You don’t like how you feel in it.

This is not what you planned for your business.

You know that you’re a capable, intelligent person but you can’t understand why you can’t get stuff done. There are cluttered piles of who-knows-what, files that haven’t seen daylight in years, and a computer desktop with a snarl of documents and photos that seem impossible to untangle.

How did it get this way?

In the back of your mind, there’s a real fear that someday all of it will catch up with you. You want your business to succeed, but you feel like you’re running in place just trying to keep up.

The most challenging part is that you haven’t yet been able to fix this on your own – and you have tried. You’ve tried creating systems to help you get organized and focused – only to have them dissolve in a few weeks.

You’ve read books about organizing and time management and never finished them because they were too detailed to be helpful. You’ve bought new organizing things that you thought would be The Solution, but they’re still in the bag or filled up with all the stuff that was once on your desk.

Welcome, friend, to the life of a creative entrepreneur.

While nothing’s worked just yet, the chaos that’s driving you crazy actually comes from your inherent creativity and optimism. For if you look closely at the things around you, you’ll discover that they’re reminders for projects you want to start, interesting people you want to meet, and touchstones for the myriad interests that capture your fancy.

You’re not broken. You’re just creative.

If you feel out of place in your space, it’s because your system is broken – not you. If you want to fix the system you’re working in, most people look for the answer outside of themselves. In books. Office Big Box. On TV. I assure you, the best answers are not around you.

The best, most healing answers come from inside you.

I’ve talked to dozens of small business owners who were so frustrated with their workspace and so stressed out, they forgot that they knew what they needed. When I work with clients one on one, I ask a specific series of questions that help them discover their needs. But not everyone wants to work with me one-on-one, and that’s what the Wish Kit is for.

What’s The Wish Kit?

The Wish Kit is a 28-page workbook that walks you through those same questions I ask my individual clients. It’s a process of discovery that is unlike any organizing book – because it’s all about you. It’s not about some dude who has it All Figured Out with a Perfect System you should adopt. (Yuck!)

The Wish Kit is about what you wish your office could be. It’s about you and about what you need. And if you have no idea what you need, the Wish Kit will help with that, too.

Why I wrote it

Several years ago, I started a small business. I’d struggled for years with disorganization – which affected my grades as a kid and which became late bills and forgotten appointments as an adult. I spent years trying to cover my tracks and just prayed that no one knew how hard it was for me to stay on top of everything. It was a long, painful nightmare. And nothing I did seemed to make it better.

Until I got diagnosed with ADD at 32, I thought I was broken. A failure. Then I read Delivered from Distraction, a book about ADD that showed me that I had simply been a creative peg trying to fit into a linear, over-structured hole. The author showed me that I could celebrate the way I work, instead of trying to do it the way everyone else does.

And this message transformed my life.

My office got cleaned up. My work became fun. I started to smile again and relax. I was doing it my way.

And with that knowledge, I started Inspired Home Office to teach other creative entrepreneurs how to discover and love their unique way of working.

I want for you to love your work again – every part of it. And I believe it’s possible.
