I love all the comments and discoveries you've mentioned on this thread. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is stop and notice - even for a few seconds - all the beauty and intention around you.

Yay for inspiration!

This makes me smile, because almost everyone who walks into my office (at work, not at home) remarks that it has the nicest feel of any of the 25 offices where I work. We just moved in here last November, and I made a concerted effort to make it feel personal, inviting, and sacred. I even hung some gauzy fabric over the window - most people just have those industrial venetian blinds.

My fave sacred space item: the full view of the Flatirons (Rocky Mountain Front Range awesome rock formation) from office window. I've got a whole wall of natural artwork that instantly reminds me of who I am and what's important to me!

For "working on", Jen's post makes me notice what's happened to my altar of cool stuff - it's morphed into a place that I put my keys and items from the day. Plus the altar is outdated which is probably why it's turned into a collection surface ;0) So I'm going to think about what new things my altar is ready to represent...

Thanks Jen!

This post reminds me of the quote Carl Jung had above his door, "Bidden or not bidden, God is present."

I celebrate the sacred everywhere in my house... except in my office. It's been too much of a mess! Now that it's getting organized, this is a great reminder to celebrate the sacred in my office as well.

We all need reminders of who we really are. Our home offices are probably the most important places to have them!

++++

Okay, I lied. I just took a look around me. To my right is a picture frame my husband gave me on our first Christmas (when we were newly engaged) with photos of us. Next to it is a glass bottle of sand from the beach we're sitting on in the pictures. To the right of the frame & sand is a little mini-Hope Chest given to me by a Hope-Giver friend when we met for the first time in person.....

I guess my "working on" is to clear out the clutter so that I can SEE the sacred celebration going on already in my space! =)

I am reluctant to call it sacred or an altar, but inspired by your wish kit I do have a few things sitting on the base of the desk lamp and around my desk that are important:

A Transformer (yes, really) that reminds me of a great group of colleagues that worked on a transformation consultation

A little soapstone goddess I bought from a street vendor in Vancouver. She contrasts considerably with the transformer.

The sign from my office door when I was Deputy Head of Social Sciences at Birmingham University.

And a red chinese thing I need to hang up that a former student of mine (Taiwanese) gave me when I left Birmingham. He told me what it meant and now I don't remember but I know it is something good.

A little rainbow flag that keeps getting knocked out of it's stand.

BTW, I don't dust. Don't buy black furniture.
